Safety Precautions

On Wednesday, the Tangipahoa Parish School System announced some important changes and enhancements to ensure the safety and security of all attendees at all TPSS school athletic events.

Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley said, “The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community members have always been our top priority, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants and spectators alike.”

Beginning Thursday, September 6th, TPSS will be implementing two significant safety measures: the use of security wands and a clear bag requirement for entry at games.

To enhance the security screening process and minimize potential risks, we will introduce security wands at all entrances. Trained security personnel will use these wands to perform non-invasive, quick, and thorough searches of spectators before they enter the athletic event. This measure will help identify any prohibited items and ensure that everyone who enters does so safely.

The TPSS requests attendee cooperation and patience during this process. To expedite the security screening, please consider arriving with ample time before the game begins. The security wands will help maintain a secure and welcoming environment for everyone.

Clear Bag Policy: In addition to security wands, the district will be implementing a clear bag policy for all attendees. This policy is designed to streamline the entry process, enhance security, and make it easier for security personnel to conduct inspections. To comply with this policy, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12"

  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags

  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap (maximum size: 4.5" x 6.5")

Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to backpacks, large purses, tote bags, and non-clear bags. Diaper bags are allowed but must be inspected. An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection.

“These measures are essential to maintain a secure and safe environment for all attendees, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please share this information with friends and family members who plan to attend our athletic events,” Stilley said.

The Tangipahoa Parish School System’s commitment to personal safety remains unwavering, and district officials believe that these measures will contribute to an even more enjoyable and secure game day experience for everyone.

“We are grateful for your continued support of our prep athletic program and look forward to seeing you at our games this season,” Stilley said.

If you have any questions or concerns about these safety measures, please do not hesitate to contact our school administration at questions@tangischools.org

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making our athletic events a safe and memorable experience for all.

Come Teach for Tangi!

The School Board gave final approval for the district to offer a one time $15,000 recruitment stipend for NEW teachers to Tangipahoa Parish School System.

New Teachers to the Tangipahoa Parish who receive the recruitment bonus will be placed at specific schools based on their certification with the goal of creating a more diverse workplace at every school. This stipend will be paid over two years, which would provide an additional $625 per month for 24 months ($7,500 more annually) on top of the teacher salary schedule. Teachers transferring from other districts to Tangipahoa will have their numbers of years teaching credited to them on the salary schedule.

New teachers in TANGI with no teaching experience start at $47,300 plus the $15,000 recruitment stipend. New teachers coming into TANGI with five years experience with a bachelors' degree start at $49,636 plus the $15,000 recruitment stipend. New teachers coming into TANGI with 10 years experience with a bachelor's degree start at $52,016 plus the $15,000 recruitment stipend.

The Superintendent and Board will continue to utilize all available revenues to ensure that the very best teachers are in the classroom. The new 2023-2024 Salary Schedule will be released in July 2023 and may reflect higher teacher salaries. Our goal is to continue to offer competitive salaries for all our employees.
